Relaxing Okinawa Rain and a Catch-up / Memorial Day

'twould appear that rainy season is upon us here on Okinawa. There's a small storm brewing NE of the Philippines this weekend and it's projected to travel a bit east of us here, so we may or may not have a bit more wet weather towards the early part of next week. It rained pretty steadily here over the past three days or so.

We have a long weekend for Memorial Day but no plans to travel very far, since we've just returned from Songkran about a month ago. Speaking of Memorial Day, I feel like we become detached alot of the time from the significance and history behind some of our holidays. In my most recent company update to our Marines and Sailors, I enclosed this link as a reminder:

We cherish too, the Poppy red That grows on fields where valor led, It seems to signal to the skies, That blood of heroes never dies.

I'm rambling, but I do have to say that while we may not always agree with our own American foreign policy, or pieces of it and where it may have taken us, we can't forget the sacrifices made and the bravery of those that went before us.

An uncle's flight school/WOC photo from the 60s. He'd go on to fly missions in Vietnam...though I don't know if he ever told those stories to anyone.
