Okinawa: Sunday Mornings / Self-Reflection / Local Exploration

During the work week, my workouts usually take place in the darkness...from 5 AM to about 6:30 or so. After that I usually make coffee, get changed over, and head into the office. I rarely escape during lunchtime so that I can take care of "work" things, so the early morning hours are mine to get a sweat in and cleanse the body, mind, and soul. On Sundays, though, I like to take off a bit later in the morning and today I decided to take the phone with me to snap a few photos of the neighborhood (I usually hate running with anything - and I'd probably run in underwear and shoes if that wouldn't make me a bad ambassador).

Golden Week has just ended here on Okinawa, but the Koinobori (鯉のぼり) - or carp streamers - thanks interwebs - are still flying everywhere.

I'll miss these Chatan-cho strolls and parks when we leave.

Don't judge that pace...I made a few stops along the way and might've forgotten to pause the ol' timekeeper.

The Shisa dogs always operate in pairs (like machine guns), keeping the good energy in while repelling the bad.

There's a pretty good view from up there...I captured that in a YouTube video not too long ago.

Clean toilets in every park.

Our house is somewhere in between the ballpark that's up there...and the East China Sea that's out beyond that.

My morning workouts sometimes start or end here. Peaceful and quiet in the early hours...baseball takes over on the weekends.

Many Buddhas represented here.
